Founded in 1916 by James Raford "Colonel" Musgrave, the company began by producing Tennessee red cedar pencil slats before evolving into one of the longest-running pencil manufacturers in the United States. Today, Musgrave continues to manufacture high-quality wooden pencils from its historic facility in Shelbyville, Tennessee—known as "The Pencil City"—while honoring generations of craftsmanship and innovation.
