Manufacturing & Materials
The Tote Project manufactures its bags using 100% GOTS-certified organic cotton and recycled PET fabric made from post-consumer plastic bottles. Each tote is sewn in a fair trade-certified factory in Kolkata, India, that employs women who have survived or are at risk of human trafficking. Printing is done with water-based inks that are free from PVC and phthalates. Fabric is cut using manual die-cutting to reduce energy consumption, and offcuts are reused or recycled. All packaging is plastic-free, using recycled paper tags and compostable shipping materials to minimize environmental impact.
