Collection: Hiroyuki Sugawara 菅原博之
Hiroyuki Sugawara is a woodworker mainly producing lacquer-finished tableware and cutlery in his studio in Japan. Each piece is delicately crafted using local Japanese wood and sealed with a natural Japanese Lacquer paint that is derived from tree sap.
Hiroyuki was born in 1971 in Miyagi, a prefecture North of Tokyo on the east coast of Honshu island. In his twenties, Hiroyuki worked at a design planning company, which he eventually left to pursue his passion of woodworking. From 2001 to 2005, Hiroyuki worked in a furniture workshop where he honed in his skills. He then left the workshop to become an independent woodworker, where he was able to refine and perfect his style.
Hiroyuki's work can be viewed at solo exhibition as well as community artist exhibitions.
